The last few days of our trip was
spent at Mount Kenya Safari Club. We
knew as soon as we arrived that we were in paradise. In fact, as soon as we stepped foot onto the
grounds, Milca and I decided to extend our visit there by a couple of days.
Mount Kenya Safari Club had a spectacular
view of Mount Kenya but you only had the morning to gaze at the beautiful scenery
because the clouds would roll in like clock work everyday after right after lunch. The grounds were impeccable and the animal orphanage
just couldn't be beat. We spent one
afternoon wandering around the animal orphanage. The animals were incredible and we loved
being able to hold and pet some of them. Yes, there was lots of shrieking and laughter! Speedy, the 135 year old land tortoise,
basically runs the place but the cute little monkeys try hard to steal the
show. The Zorse (mix of a zebra and a
horse) was pretty cool too. We were
basically blown away by everything we saw.
One our favorite features of the hotel
rooms was that you heat your room by using a real wood burning fireplace. You could call the front desk anytime during
your stay and they would come and build a fire for you. It was magical...or maybe not so magical when
you come back from dinner and your room is filled with smoke. We’re still not quite sure what happened but
when Sonia and Juancho came back to their room after dinner their entire room
was smoky. Luckily nothing was on fire....but
it was a little nerve wracking knowing that you were sleeping in rooms that
didn’t have fire alarms. First world
problems, I guess!
